How to set up Google my Business profile

Step 1: Create a Business google account

Search on Google my Business on the web or Visit Google My Business and click “Manage Now” to get the next step.

Step 2: Add your Business to Google

At this step you have two options, you can create your new business profile here and you can claim an existing business if your business profile is already listed on GBM. If you have an existing business profile on Google, type your business name and click “Request Access” and you will be guided through the process.

If you’re creating a new profile, then the second step is to add your business name and category. The name should be filled here as an official business name. Don’t do any keywords stuffing into the name as this violates Google’s guidelines.

Now, choose the category, do little research if you are confused about choosing the category for your Business. For Example, if you own an Italian restaurant and you are choosing only “Reataurant” as your category then it’ll be a little difficult for your business to get ranked for the right searches but if you choose “Italian Restaurant” it will define your business perfectly.

Step 3: Does the business have a local location

Do you want to add a location customers can visit, like a store or office? If yes then click “Yes” to fill in the Address of your business Or do you have a business that operates online then click “No”.

If Clicked “Yes”, you will get redirected to the next page. Now fill in your business address. It will ask you to mark your location on Google Maps as well.

If you clicked “No” or didn’t want to enter a physical address, Google will ask you to specify the region you’re based in. Choose from the drop-down menu and click “Next”.

Step 4: Add contact Details

Fill in your phone number and website address and then click “Next”. If you don’t want to share a phone number, just leave it empty and click “Next”.

You’ll be able to come back and edit this information later.

Step 5: Verify the business

Choose a way to verify. If you had provided your physical location and website address, you will get an option to verify your profile by Phone number and Email. Select an option and get the verification code at your phone number or email address, you will receive a verification code, verify your profile by that code.

If your business has no physical address, your profile will be verified by a mailing address where you have to provide your real physical address. Don’t provide a post office box. This information will be used for verification only it will not be displayed on your Google Business Profile or shared with the public.

Step 6: Customize your business profile

Fill in all the necessary information like your business hours, messaging preferences, business description, and photos.

After filling in all the details click “Continue”. You’ll find yourself in the Business Profile Manager dashboard.
